JANESVILLE — Do you have thoughts on what should happen with the former GM/JATCO site?

You can share your ideas Wednesday at a community workshop.

The City of Janesville and the GM/JATCO Redevelopment Advisory Board is hosting its first major public event, a Community Visioning Workshop scheduled for Wednesday, June 24, at the Hedberg Public Library Program Room. Attendees are encouraged to drop in anytime between 5 and 7 p.m.

The workshop marks the beginning of a broad public engagement process designed to inform the conceptual redevelopment plan for the former GM and JATCO properties, a 250‑acre site undergoing long‑term planning, environmental assessment, and reuse evaluation.

During the open‑house style event, participants will be invited to:

  • Share ideas for how the site should evolve
  • Identify priorities for land uses, amenities, and economic opportunities
  • Discuss community needs, compatibility considerations, and redevelopment challenges
  • Contribute directly to a plan that reflects Janesville’s future and community values

The workshop will feature interactive stations, maps of the redevelopment area, and opportunities to provide written and verbal feedback. Members of the Redevelopment Advisory Board, City staff, and the project’s planning consultants will be present to answer questions and listen to community input.

The GM/JATCO Redevelopment Advisory Board was established in 2025 to help guide the vision, priorities, and strategy for the large former industrial site. The board will use insights gathered from this workshop and the future engagement efforts to shape the conceptual planning work taking place throughout 2026.
